Erected in 1991 By The Members - For The Community
The Ted Bagley Education Building, erected in 1991 by the members of The Orillia Fish and Game Conservation Club, stands proudly on the George Langman Sanctuary property. This structure serves as a testament to the enduring commitment of Ted Bagley, a dedicated club member who made significant contributions to numerous conservation initiatives. His legacy is honored through the building, which was constructed in his memory, acknowledging his tireless efforts to establish Hunter Education programs in the Orillia area and his longstanding role within the Club's executive.
Perched on a remarkable rise of land, the Education Centre offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the George Langman Sanctuary. The facility boasts a recently renovated, modern commercial-grade kitchen, serving as a hub for various club activities, including monthly dinner meetings. Recognizing its potential as a community resource, the Executive Council has approved the building's use by different local groups, such as Boy Scout and Girl Guide Clubs, for hosting their events.
Beyond its role as a meeting place, the Ted Bagley Memorial Education Centre plays a crucial role in advancing education in the field of conservation. The venue hosts meetings, seminars, and other educational programs aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of conservation principles.
An Integral Part Of the Community
The Education Centre are integral components of the community, especially for Scouting and Guiding organizations. Many groups benefit from the serene outdoor setting provided by the sanctuary for their programs. Over the years, the OFGCC has actively promoted conservation among youth through initiatives such as a junior conservation club, Art and Essay Contests, and participation in local Science Fairs.
Sitting proudly on the northwest corner of the sanctuary property, the "Ted Bagley Memorial Education Building" stands as a symbol of the Club's dedication to conservation and education. Since its construction in 1991, the building continues to serve not only as a meeting place for the club but also as a valuable resource for the broader community, embodying the spirit of Ted Bagley's commitment to conservation and education.
